World Water Day: Understanding the Importance of Freshwater

World Water Day, observed annually on 22 March, aims to raise awareness about the importance of freshwater and sustainable water management.

Although water covers much of the Earth’s surface, only a small percentage is suitable for drinking and sanitation.

Challenges affecting global water access include:

  • Population growth
  • Climate change
  • Pollution of freshwater sources
  • Poor infrastructure in some regions

Access to safe drinking water is essential for preventing disease and supporting healthy communities.

Clean water enables hygiene practices such as handwashing, which plays a crucial role in preventing infections.

At My Patient Advice, discussions around public health often highlight how environmental conditions influence individual wellbeing.

World Water Day encourages governments, organisations, and communities to prioritise sustainable water use and improved sanitation systems.
