Is A Pacemaker Replacement A Major Procedure?

A pacemaker replacement is generally considered a minor procedure rather than major surgery.

Unlike the initial implantation, the existing leads that connect the device to the heart are usually left in place. This means the procedure focuses only on replacing the generator.

The process typically involves reopening the original incision site, removing the old device, and connecting a new one to the existing leads.

Because the work is limited to the area beneath the skin, recovery is often quicker compared to the first procedure.

Most patients are able to return home on the same day, with minimal disruption to their routine.
