Why Do We Assume Our Vaccinations Are Still Up to Date?

Vaccination is often seen as something completed early in life.

A schedule followed.
Appointments attended.
Protection assumed.

But immunity does not always remain the same over time.

Many people are unaware that additional vaccines or booster doses may be recommended later in life, depending on age, health conditions, or travel.

Common gaps include:

  • Missed booster vaccinations

  • Travel-related immunisations

  • Protection for higher-risk groups

  • Limited awareness of adult vaccine guidance

These gaps are rarely intentional. They are usually the result of assumptions.

Access to clear and reliable healthcare information plays an important role in helping individuals understand what protection they may still need.

At My Patient Advice, we often see how awareness influences decisions around preventive care and long-term wellbeing.

Sometimes the most important step is not starting protection, but maintaining it.
